Class Parents Kick-off a Sensational School Year

Elementary and preschool classrooms around the country are gearing up for back-to-school, and VolunteerSpot is hoping to inspire more parents to get involved in their child’s classroom as a Room Mom (or Room Dad).

Room Moms coordinate other class parents to ensure the teacher is well-supported in the classroom and help make class parties and events even more fun.

Taking on the role of Room Mom can seem daunting at first, but with a bit of practice, and some guidance from VolunteerSpot, any mom or dad can become a confident lead class parent.

Cindy Hopper, a Kansas mom of 3, treasures her own Room Mom experience in saying, “I get to develop a personal relationship with the teacher and I get a window on my child’s daily world at school.”

Because class parents are so important to the everyday workings of the classroom, Volunteer Spot has published “The Room Mom Survival Guide,” a free eBook to help classroom parents and teachers achieve a successful school year.

The Guide is full of advice from teachers and experienced Room Moms on how to work together to create an excellent classroom experience for students and teachers alike.

The Room Mom Survival Guide offers new Room Moms information on how to get started and gives seasoned pros fresh ideas for classroom fun. Also included are tips and screenshots for using VolunteerSpot’s free, online parent coordination tool to make scheduling and signing up classroom parent helpers quick, easy and clipboard-free.

Those who are already a Room Mom or are thinking of becoming a Room Mom in their child’s class will find several pages of ideas and best practices from teachers and experienced Room Moms.
